The Eastern guide covers 545 species and the Western guide covers 636 species. I find this book to be an extraordinary source of information. Jays, Crows, and Grackles, by devouring the eggs and young of our smaller birds, are a far greater menace than are the birds of prey, but even these have their work and should be left in the place that Nature intended for them; they should, however, be taught to keep away from the neighborhood of houses. We have many years experience of developing biological software and this has enabled us to pack the app full of features while keeping it simple and easy to use.

This book is a bud of the classic Guia de aves de Argentina y Uruguay by Narosky and Yzurieta (1987), with a selection of 223 species instead of almost 1000. Greer writes from a remote end of the island with no phone, electricity or street address. Outside of the forest are clearings (e.g. LDL lodge, Santa Rita), large tracts of pasture land with isolated tall trees ( i.e. tropical savanna) with small herds of emaciated cattle, heart-of-palm and box-lumber "reforestation" monocultures.

Widely used from sixth-form level upwards, over 25 titles are currently in print. Finding Birds in CT is less detailed, but has 450 habitat based sites - hard to get a hold of though - by Gene Billings and Dave Rosgen. You might start your search by selecting the state or province that you are looking for your bird. For Southeastern Arizona "Finding Birds in Southeast Arizona" by the Tucson Audubon Society it is a Davis and Russell book. They can be useful if you are unfamiliar with the terrain or the least bit uncomfortable in driving off the beaten path, but they probably won't add anything to your birding experience.

I feel that a lot of the damage to field guides comes from thumbing back a few pages to find the index. Overall this publication contains very good information and includes notable field mark notations in the photos. An interesting tome is Arkansas Birds: Their Distribution and Abundance by Douglas A. This book taught her a lot that she passed on to me, Though I'm by no means the naturist she was, I do appreciate the way this book made me more aware of the birds around me.
