Just in case you were wondering. [NOTE: I usually wouldn’t list a book that has neither a publisher nor an editor name listed on its guidelines, but this is an interesting project so I’m taking a chance. Highly recommended for large public libraries and private collections. The Crypt-Keeper now turns his steely gaze upon young Mr. Director Kern wants to self-distribute and has no plans for digital downloads or DVD release at this time.

Here’s the thing though, Twisted Tales was more concerned with storytelling than exploitation. SCIENCE FICTION collection - Unsigned Jacketed Hardcover. Lists like this one are as subjective as they are spooky. But the more ideas Smith gets out there, the more likely we are to see some new and exciting projects. Despite a troubled release, it's comforting to know that fun, competent, well told horror anthologies still exist in the 21st century. I don't criticise the editors for that, as I can't think of a single writer of colour within the UK horror scene either, at least not without drawing on those from the literary end of the spectrum (e.g.

Pictured above is my personal favorite issue, featuring stories about a tortured vampire living in post-World War I Germany and a giant-ass arachnid that causes problems for some villagers. (The latter story especially rings true with me thanks to a raging case of arachnophobia combined with a minimal spider infestation at my home). The best way to learn what we like in general is to read a previous volume.

Mills, Daniel “Below the Falls,” Nightscript I. Marion Crawford's For The Blood Is The Life, Barry Pain's The Moon-Slave, Thomas Lovell Beddoes' admittedly delightful poem, The Phantom Wooer, etc. At least as far back as Bradburys Something Wicked This Way Comes, moving forward through much of Stephen Kings best work, horror fiction has featured protagonists at or near adolescence. My main complaint is that the execution in each story actually undoes the terror that it should induce.

Rather morbid, but while there are entries with some sense of humor, this is an anthology aimed to disturb one or all of your senses. Though this story may be categorized as the story of the worst girlfriend ever, “Bitch” is so much more! If you'd like to revisit this classic series you can buy every season on DVD. We charge submission fees, pay our contributors in cash and a print copy, and host fee free days every reading period. Neither of those movies was very good, but Bolger turned in solid performances, and the chance to see her play an unhinged caretaker of children seems like her meatiest film role yet.

The only writer who rises above cheap thrills and delves a bit into the humanity of his subjects is Alan King, whose stories about crazy relatives and other lost souls is worthy of its own title.

Derr, at derrs@lessthanthreepress.com (or you can ping her on twitter @rykaine). Even the jump scares have a deeper meaning. But it’s never possible to summarize why a Weird tale is so powerful, especially a short story, and it’s ten times harder with this kind of manga where two thirds of the answer is: it’s creepy because it looks so creepy! The show is currently available on DVD and some episodes can be viewed on Youtube. In the manga, Kitaro wanders Japan meeting traditional folklore creatures, many of which had never been described in written form until the manga was produced.
